What will you learn?

This two-day course prepares the technician to understand electrical principles and practices to be performed during drivability diagnosing. Ohm’s Law is analyzed along with the theory of DC current. Discussion includes the operation of series and parallel circuits. Electrical trainers in the class allow the technicians to take advantage of the features of a multimeter (DVOM) and the layout of electrical circuits. Technicians are also taken to a vehicle to understand the theory analyzed and used to test charging, sensor and actuator circuits. Instruction on wiring diagrams (schematics) is learned and applied to various trucks on hand. Technicians use worksheets to assemble circuits which include relays and circuit breakers.

Instruction in this course is focused on applying basic electrical theory and use in testing circuits and components such as sensors and actuators found on vehicles with electronic control systems.

Given the electrical trainers, multimeter (DVOM), instruction and service information, the technician will test and understand DC electrical behavior in common circuits found on Diesel engines today.

**Note: Technicians are encouraged to bring a laptop/tablet to the course for additional service information access. Lunch will be provided during the class. Transportation will be the responsibility of the student.
