What will you learn?

Basic electrical and electronic fundamentals were covered in Electrical 1. Electricity was described as the movement of electrons. This course continues with the types of resistors and variable resistors such as the potentiometer. Circuits with variable resistors will be assembled and reviewed. Construction, plus their uses will be explained and shown on a vehicle. Sensors that use these variable sensors will be analyzed in wiring diagrams. Once the analysis is completed, there will be assigned tasks on the vehicle. Training will continue with the introduction of semiconductors. The construction of the bipolar transistor will be viewed using another semiconductor, the diode. P-type and N-type materials will be shown, and circuits will be assembled during the course on training boards. Technicians will use the multimeter test transistors and diode properly in a circuit.

Training will include the use of wiring diagrams/schematics. Technicians will analyze power and ground distribution circuits. Use of the popular manufacturer’s wiring diagrams will be quizzed to learn how to read a diagram properly.

There will be an introduction to lab scope operation and use. The basic operation of measuring voltage and time is used to learn how to read basic DC signals. Using a digital labscope will allow the technician to use this tool to diagnose issues found on vehicles today. Exercises will be on electrical/electronic training boards and various vehicles.

**Note: multimeters will be available, but technicians are encouraged to bring their own. Lunch will be provided during the class. Transportation will be the responsibility of the student
